Perfect Health: The Chopra Center for Well-Being Ayurvedic Lifestyle Program

With the new direction that the healthcare system is taking us, personal accountability and responsibility for one’s health has become more important. The Chopra Center Ayurvedic Lifestyle Program’s strong grounding in self-knowledge and mindbody health provides a holistic approach to wellness. Instructor Mary Beth Janssen’s mantra is “self-care is the ultimate health care,” and your experience in class will be based on the best seller “Perfect Health” by Deepak Chopra, M.D.

Perfect Health: The Chopra Center for Well-Being Ayurvedic Lifestyle Program (LIO 0094), Saturday and Sunday, 4/7-4/8, 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Learn to bring balance and healing into your life through a powerful regimen of Ayurvedic practices designed to balance the body and mind, enhance nutrition, reduce emotional turbulence, and re-awaken the senses. In this five lesson course designed by Deepak Chopra, M.D. and David Simon, M.D., you will learn to achieve equilibrium and integration of mind, body, soul, and environment. This will  empower you to make nourishing choices, achieve healing, and experience change.

Janssen, a certified MindBody Health Educator for The Chopra Center and award-winning author, answered some questions about the course:

Could you explain what Ayurveda means?

Mary Beth: It translates as “the science of life.” It is a holistic medical system practiced by millions of people around the world, endorsed by the World Health Organization, and has been the subject of numerous research studies at the National Institutes of Health.

What is unique about this course?

Mary Beth: This inspirational and transformative program is about self-knowledge. We will determine your individual mind body energy (or dosha) type so that specific healing modalities for creating wholeness in mind, body, and soul can be administered. Since this is a healing system based on our level of consciousness, we focus on techniques that allow us to expand that, primarily mindfulness and meditation.

What are the benefits of Perfect Health?

  • Reduce Stress
  • Identify mind-body personality
  • Improve digestion and sleep patterns
  • Release emotional toxicity
  • Create optimal daily nutrition
  • Lower blood pressure

These are achieved in the program by developing skills in meditation, mindfulness, nutritional practices, yoga, breath work, and practicing conscious communication.

What are some basic holistic approaches to wellness that individuals can start applying in their lives today?

Mary Beth: The most important ones are proper breathing, mindfulness/meditation, and food choices. Students will be well-grounded in these after this course.

What do you hope students will take away from this course?

Mary Beth: Students will be able to identify the imbalances in their lives and apply specific skills to correct them, incorporating a nurturing daily routine. I hope students will become so exquisitely mindful that they are able to make the most life-affirming choices possible to experience well-being, joy, and vitality.
