Start with Broker Pre-License (choose on campus or online), continue with Applied Real Estate Principles.
BROKER PRE-LICENSE (LRE 8170-001): This introductory 75-hour course plus the 15-hour course, LRE8174, allows you to sit for the Illinois Real Estate Broker license exam. All required topics are covered including license law, real property, agency, seller and buyer relationships, state and federal laws, marketing and market analysis, appraisal and contracts. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5/22-7/26, 6:30-10:10 p.m.
BROKER PRE-LICENSE – ONLINE (LRE 8170-W01): This introductory 75-hour course plus the 15-hour course, LRE8174, allows you to sit for the Illinois Real Estate Broker license exam. All required topics are covered including license law, real property, agency, seller and buyer relationships, state and federal laws, marketing and market analysis, appraisal and contracts. ONLINE, 5/29-7/26. Meets once on campus: Tuesday, 5/29, 5:15-6:15 p.m.
APPLIED REAL ESTATE PRINCIPLES (LRE 8171-001): This 15-hour course plus the 75-hour course, LRE8170, allows you to sit for the Illinois Real Estate Broker license exam. Apply what
you’ve learned in the introductory course through case studies and role playing activities. All required topics are covered including listing presentations, buyer representations, purchase agreements, negotiating, closing costs, and anti-trust. Prerequisite: LRE8170. Saturdays, 8/4-8/11, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

To qualify for an Illinois Real Estate Broker License in the State of Illinois, you must be at least 21 years old, have a high school graduate diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and successfully complete the required coursework and pass the state licensing exam. This license is governed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Education Regulation. To earn this license, you will need to complete a 90 program in Broker Pre-Licensing. Harper offers this program every semester and part of the program can be taken online or in the classroom. It takes less than one semester to complete the required 90 hours. Housing demand over the next decade will be significantly higher than it is today, predicts Lawrence Yun, the chief economist of the National Association of REALTORS®, in his latest column at Forbes.com. Rising populations and a growth in the job market likely will release a pent-up demand in housing over the next 10 years, he says. The population is rising and more housing will be needed to meet demand, Yun says. About 325 million people currently live in the U.S., and population projections forecast a 27 million increase to 352 million in 10 years. (full article available here).

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states: “The millennial generation will be entering the prime working-age and household-forming age cohort over the next decade. This generation has delayed home ownership because of financial and personal considerations. Therefore, their entry into the housing market should increase demand for real estate agents and brokers.
