Basic Orientation and Dementia Care for Activity Directors Starts June 5

Learn the latest strategies for moving beyond bingo and crafts and providing new and exceptional leisure opportunities to attract and retain residents. This program will provide you and your organization with the tools needed to keep your commitment to quality services and excellence.

This 36-hour basic orientation and Dementia Care course for Activity Directors fulfills the IDPH requirements. As the first step to becoming a Certified Dementia Practitioner, participants learn to develop unique programs and work with Alzheimer’s patients. In this blended course, students attend class on campus and complete online coursework off campus.

Harper CE Register ButtonBASIC ORIENTATION AND DEMENTIA CARE FOR ACTIVITY DIRECTORS (LAH 0243): In this blended course, students attend class on campus four days and complete online coursework off campus three days. A discount is available for organizations sending two or more employees. June 5 – June 19.

Completing the program will help you fulfill IDPH and OBRA requirements for long term care and provides an interdisciplinary approach to:

  • Developing person-centered programs.
  • Promoting your activities and leisure programs to attract new residents.
  • Creating unique programming for those dealing with dementia.
  • Addressing therapeutic issues and wellness.
  • Understanding PPS and Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Collecting and evaluating valuable data.

She is the vice president of consultation for HealthPro Rehabilitation, responsible for developing educational programs for staff working in long term care facilities.
