Write a Novel in 30 Days…Really!

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)

NaNoWriMo is a nonprofit organization that encourages and supports people around the world to tell their stories. Every November, this organization promotes the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel during the month. Although this challenge may strike fear in any writer’s heart, be brave – NaNoWriMo.org provides a plethora of tools and support to help you reach your goal. Last year, NaNoWriMo welcomed nearly a half-million participants! If you have ever considered writing a novel, this may be the challenge for you. Start by clicking here to learn how NaNoWriMo works.

Looking for more structure? Register today for our online class: WRITE A NOVEL IN 30 DAYS WORKSHOP (LLA0012), Thursdays, 10/22-12/3, 6:30-9:30 p.m.:

Writing a novel is a momentous achievement that can take years of work. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenges you to create your first draft in thirty days. Is this possible? Yes! Every year, authors meet the challenge. Many turn their NaNoWriMo drafts into published books. Take the express route to achieving your authoring dreams with this accelerated novel workshop. We will review novel elements, participate in group critiques, experiment with creative writing exercises, and take advantage of in-class novel writing time. From novel planning, to writing, to next steps, this class will help you reach your goal.

Not sure about your novel plans? Already started (or stalled on) a novel? No problem! Students come to this class with varying levels of preparation and goals. Whether you have no idea what to write or you have already started (or nearly completed) a novel, this class will help you boost your writing speed, creativity and confidence. Experience the camaraderie and inspiration of writing with your classmates in this unique atmosphere, and feel the exhilaration as your dreams become reality.

This year, we’re conducting the class online (via WebEx), which offers many additional benefits, including:

  • Attend class wherever you are – no driving required
  • Work on your own computer (or notepad) in the comfort of your own space
  • Wear your pjs and slippers to class if you want
  • Have a glass of wine with your online writing class (see our wine pairing post for suggestions)
  • Sweet! – while in class, enjoy the half-priced/leftover Halloween candy all to your self (for writing stamina)

Write a Novel in 30 Days Workshop: The NaNoWriMo Challenge was the best writing experience ever! I took the course because I thought it would be fun. However, little did I know, it was a source of great inspiration. Learning how to stretch my innate, creative talents was something I never imagined. The expertise in teaching and motivation techniques used by instructor Laura Ehrke were executed masterfully. My classmates and I wrote with incredible speed, each student was astonished by the progress made. This class was the impetus to write a book that is my ‘calling.’ Prior to taking this class, I never thought I could become a published writer. After taking this class, I always believe I can become one. Delores McConnell

I want to thank you for a great class – you really helped my writing and my book. I hope I can do another one with you soon.

Laura is a wonderful instructor. Creative writing classes can be intimidating, but Laura is generous and supportive. She gives examples and exercises that help you be more creative. She also helped set the tone of the class for the students by being accessible and open-minded. I recommend her class to anyone who has not taken a class like this before and wants to find encouragement. Highly recommended. Dr. Pearl Ratunil

I’ve taken two writing classes (Short Story Writing Workshop) and Write a Novel in 30 Days Workshop) with Laura Ehrke, and enjoyed them both. Her exercises and supporting material are helpful and informative. She is a caring instructor, and her classes are just plain fun. Pam Gitta
